Bag Challenge

Well, I finished the bag for the bag challenge for The Creative Connection put on by Moms Like Me. At least I think this is the bag I'm going to enter. Always other ideas whirling around in the old noggin! I'm writing a pattern for this bag as well. Here's a sneek peek until I decide if I will actually enter this one.

Still Undecided

Still can't decide which fabrics to use with these new purse handles! Life should be so rough huh? Thought these cute pink florals might be cute for a friend who's having a birthday soon.
Reorganized another sewing room yesterday, have a few more hours left to work on it next week but Sarah and I sure worked through sorting out some of the tough stuff. It will be nice for her when it's done.
Writing a pattern today but might need to take a break and do some actual sewing!

The Creative Connection Event

I am so excited about The Creative Connection event happening in Sept. You can click on their button on my sidebar to see their website and all the info about it. I am not only attending, but I get to be a vendor at their Vendor Faire during the event!!! What a dream come true!! I will have purses, bags, some new patterns and kits, vintage fabric labels and lots of other fun items. There are so many wonderful people teaching and sitting in on panels at this event. And, they feature someone creative each week on their blog, this week being Joanna from Fig Tree Quilts. Check it out! Trying out a new pattern and purse handles today! What do you think, maybe this cute fabric from Mary Jane Butters? Oh by the way, Mary Jane happens to be one of the keynote speakers for the event, along with Amy Butler! If all goes well, I'll show you the finished work tomorrow.

My Sewing Room

Yesterday I promised I would show a few pics of my own sewing room. I have re-arranged and tweeked it about 7 or 8 times in the last 3 years that we've lived here and I guess it will always be a work in progress. These pics are current after I tidy and tweeked last month. I love those sturdy, cute, 1950's kitchen tables. They work so well for heavy sewing machines, especially when you're cruising fast because the tables don't vibrate. The corner cabinet stashed with fabric used to be my grandma's china hutch and my hubby and son hate it, not exactly sure why. Anyway, when we moved into our new house, my hubby wanted to take that cabinet to the dump, but of course I told him no and we moved it to the new house. I asked Mr. Polkadot and son to move it into the sewing room so I could store fabric in it. They put it in place, stood back and surveyed it for a moment then hubby says to son, " look at mom and look at the cabinet. It's a perfect fit! When she dies we can have her buried in it!" Of course, they started howling and I told them I didn't think it was a bit funny...ok I was chuckling when I booted them both out of the sewing room!

Before and After

OMG I almost forgot! A couple of posts ago I said I would show before/after pics of some sewing rooms I've reorganized in my new business. My friend Carol has a fabulous space and whipping in and out of her room to do projects in a hurry had made the clutter grow and take over. She just didn't know where to begin to unclutter. We had a great time working in there together and after 2 full days, we felt really happy with the results. This job is so gratifying! Don't think I'll be moving any more pianos though!! UGH! That 1889 model was HEAVY!

Carol had already done all the painting and decorating so the room just needed tidying and weeding out. Looks great now and it motivated her to continue on in several other rooms! I'll show you my sewing room tomorrow.

What Fabrics?

My design assistant Chloe was extremely helpful on Friday when I was auditioning fabrics for The Creative Connection bag challenge. We tried different trims too but just couldn't make up our minds.

Chloe really gave it her all...for all of about 3 minutes...then she had to take a break! Guess we'll have to tackle the job later!

Bag Challenge

I'm so excited about the bag challenge the Twin Cities group Moms Like Me is sponsoring for the Creative Connection Event! I am just DYING to go to that event in Sept. and am working hard to achieve that goal. I have started a small business organizing rooms for people, concentrating mainly on sewing and craft rooms. Great way to get money to save for the event! I'll post about that tomorrow because I have some great before and after photos to show you. It would be a dream come true to win the bag challenge as the prize is an invitation to the event for the evening with the two keynote speakers, Amy Butler and Mary Jane Butters. Amy's fabrics and patterns have been incredibly popular around the world the last several years and Mary Jane operates the farm and magazine called Mary Janes Farm. This event to me would be "The Bomb" which is the new term for "The Ultimate" according to my teenagers. Just can't decide which fabrics to use or whether or not to use an existing purse I've made. I sketched out the bag last night on paper so we'll see how it goes today sewing it up.

Sunny and 63 today...Spring actually is on the way! Have a great weekend!

18 Already? And snow!

Mr. Polkadot and I have been blessed with 3 kiddos and #2 has a birthday today. Can't believe she's 18 already! Emily is a beautiful girl, inside and out, has a quick wit and an engaging smile. She has a level head, generous spirit and has chosen wonderful friends. Told her she could officially buy cigars and play poker machines today! haha. What a shame she has to have such a cold and snowy day for a Spring birthday. Yes, here in Montana we almost have afew sprigs of green poking through, high of 38 and snowflakes are falling. Who knows, tomorrow could be sunny and 60! The mountain views are fabulous though so it's a tradeoff! Happy Birthday Emmie!!

First Post!

AMAZING!!! Finally getting this blog off the ground! Thanks to the help of all 3 of my kids! I would never have gotten this figured out by myself. I enjoy so many beautiful blogs from so many talented people and they have all been such an inspiration to me. Wonderful how much a person can learn from blogs, with tutorials and lovely pics, you almost feel like you've known these people for a while and you've actually sat down and had tea with them before. Kind of handy to "take tea" on the web since some of these "new friends" happen to live in other states or other countries! Hoping to post pics and info that others may find inspiring also! goes...
